2014 ELECTIONS
In May, 2014, Brazoria County MUD#18 will be holding elections for three (3) director positions. General information concerning the how to run for the election is below. Please consult directly with the attorney of MUD#18 if you would like to run for a MUD#18 Director position to ensure the accuracy of information below. How do you qualify to run for a water district board?
You must be a property owner in the district. This means that you do not have to live in a water district to be on the board if you own property in the district.
What is the compensation to serve on a water district board of directors?
Directors are paid a per diem of $150 for each day they perform duties for the district, in an amount not to exceed $7,200 per year.
When do you have to file to run for the board?
For water district elections, there is no first day to file. However, in order to have your name appear on the May 10, 2014 ballot, you must file by no later than February 28, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.
How do I obtain an application for place on ballot or application for write-in candidacy?
The easiest way to obtain these applications is to contact the water district’s attorney and ask for them.
What are the campaign reporting requirements to run for director?
The campaign reporting requirements are the same as any candidate for governmental office. The Texas Ethics Commission requires that a treasurer for the campaign be appointed and a full reporting form or modified reporting form (for campaign contributions of less than $500) be completed by each candidate.
