20th annual Paws in the Park event from March 28 to 30 at Pearland’s Independence Park. The event is coordinated by Pup Squad Animal Rescue, a Houston-based non-profit organization that works to rescue animals from shelters throughout the Houston area. This year marks the second year that Pup Squad has coordinated the community event.
Paws in the Park weekend opens with a benefit “Wags to Riches Gala,” to be held on Friday, March 28 at Golfcrest Country Club in the Green Tee subdivision of Pearland. The first-year event is coordinated by Pearland Pets, a coalition of pet-friendly businesses and veterinary offices. Proceeds from the gala will benefit Pearland Animal Control and Adoption Center. Tickets for the event are currently on sale, and can be purchased by visitingwww.pearlandpets.com.
Paws in the Park continues into the weekend with the running of the H-E-B Plus! Pet and Owner Fun Run on Saturday, March 29. The run features a 1k, 3k and 5k run/walk course, with pet-friendly amenities such as watering stations. A free 5k wheelchair racing division has been added to this year’s race. Racing begins at 10 a.m. at Independence Park, located at 3919 Liberty Drive in Pearland.
Visitors to Paws in the Park on Saturday and Sunday can expect full days of family-friendly and furry entertainment throughout the day. Scheduled competitions and entertainment include dock diving, dog disc exhibitions, performances by “Pets Overboard,” a stage show featuring animals rescued from local shelters, vendor exhibitions presented by the Westside Veterinary Hospital, food vendors and much more. Paws in the Park is a free community event of the City of Pearland, produced by Pearland Parks & Recreation.

About Pup Squad Animal Rescue – The mission of Pup Squad is to rescue orphaned puppies and nursing litters from the streets, shelters and other life-threatening situations and match them with permanent adoptive homes, and to provide support and education to these adopters and the community at large. Pup Squad works with other community rescue efforts to promote spay/neuter, adoption and humane animal care to ultimately reduce the number of animals euthanized in Houston and surrounding areas.
