Scam Alert: Individuals Posing as City of Pearland Employees
From the Pearland Police Department
Beware of individuals coming to your door saying they work for the City of Pearland. Recently the Pearland Police Department was made aware of two males who knocked on a home owner’s door and told her that they worked for the City of Pearland. They told her that they were there to trim her trees free of charge. The homeowner was asked by the men to show them her backyard and to choose which trees she would like trimmed. One of the suspects told the female that he was going to talk to the neighbor and ultimately entered into her residence to burglarize it. The homeowner interrupted the incident and the two males left in a brown colored pickup truck.
If someone comes to your door saying they work for the City of Pearland you should ask to see their identification card or credentials. In most cases not related to law enforcement, the city employees will be in marked vehicles with the City of Pearland logo. For law enforcement related contacts, the officer will be in a marked patrol vehicle with high visibility markings (police logo), low visibility markings, or an unmarked vehicle. In any case, employees will have their ID card.
For a crime to occur three things must be present: the desire, the ability, and the opportunity. The easiest for you to have an immediate impact on is limiting opportunity. By knowing and sharing information you are doing your part to limit the opportunity for criminals to act.
