Tax free holiday for some emergency preparation supplies
The Office of Emergency Management wants to remind residents to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. Three days, April 23, 24, and 25, are a “tax free” holiday to purchase many emergency preparation supplies.
Some of the items that can be purchased on April 23, 24, and 25 without paying sales tax are certain portable generators, hurricane shutters, ladders, portable self-powered light sources, fuel containers, radios, batteries, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
A complete list of tax free items, and supplies that do not qualify for the tax exemption is at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website, http://comptroller.texas.gov/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_1017.html

The Governor’s Office said Texans are projected to save $1.4 million in state and local sales taxes during the tax holiday.
