Heat Advisory
Heat Advisory is in effect for heat index readings of 108 to 111 until possibly Tuesday (August 11).
Please use caution if outdoors and remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. By around 7 pm expect conditions to moderate.
Residents with any outdoor activity plans are urged to drink plenty of water, wear light weight and light colored clothing, and take frequent indoor or shaded area breaks away from the heat.
Never leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle. The interiors can reach lethal high temperatures within a matter of minutes.
High temperatures also put a strain on the Texas energy grid. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to Texans and ensures the reliability of the grid. During times of extreme heat, demand can exceed the supply of power which forces rolling blackouts. In the event ERCOT issues a conservation alert, residents are urged to reduce their usage of electricity between the peak hours of 3 to 7pm.
Turn up thermostats where possible, turn off lights and appliances not being used, and delay doing laundry or starting the dishwasher.
