PTA Swap Shop Announces the Formal Closet
The Pearland Council of PTAs Swap Shop/Community Closet is pleased to announce the grand opening of The Formal Closet!
For a limited time only, the Swap Shop will be collecting gently used formal attire, in an effort to assist PISD families that may not otherwise be able to provide attire for school-related formal functions. The formal wear can be used for prom or other booster club banquets or events.
Here’s the scoop:
- The Formal Closet will accept and offer: Girl’s formal attire, including formal gowns and shoes (such as bridesmaid and/or prom dresses); Boy’s formal attire, including neckties, shirts, suit jackets, pants, and formal shoes.
- Vouchers: Families in need should contact their school Nurse, Counselor, CIS Rep, or School Administration to obtain a voucher for formal wear items. The Formal Wear Closet’s Voucher Program is valid for one (1) set of girl’s formal wear (can include one (1) gown and one (1) pair of shoes); or one (1) set of boy’s formal wear (can include one each of necktie, shirt, suit jacket, pants, and formal shoes)
- Donate or Swap: Donations are Needed! We will begin accepting donations of formal attire beginning March 10th (see dates below). Items MUST be formal gowns and attire – no cotton or casual dresses please! Acceptance of swapped formal wear is at the sole discretion of the Swap Shop Coordinators. PISD families may also ‘swap’ for formal wear, but only for ‘like-kind’ items (for example, formal shoes may only be swapped for formal shoes, gown for gown, etc.).
- Hours of Operation: As we introduce the Formal Closet as part of the Pearland Council of PTA’s Swap Shop/Community Closet, the Formal Closet will be open on the following dates: March 10th and April 7th from 5pm-7pm. These dates are only for accepting or swapping formal wear. During regular Swap Shop dates and hours on March 31, April 28, and May 26 you will also have an opportunity to swap or obtain formal wear.
- This is our first year implementing this concept and we hope there will be a need. But with any new concept we will see if there is a need and if we can sustain this need.
