Thursday, January 29 at 7pm: Blockade-running on the Texas Coast during the Civil War presented by Andrew Hall.  Andrew Hall currently serves as Chairman of the Galveston Historical Foundation Museum Committee. Since 1990 Hall has volunteered with the office of the State Marine Archaeologist at the Texas Historical Commission to help document historic shipwrecks in Texas waters. Hall has worked on numerous marine archaeology projects in Texas notably from 1995 to 2002 on the Denbigh Project, the most extensive excavation and research program on a Civil War blockade runner in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2012 Hall published his first book, The Galveston-Houston Packet: Steamboats on Buffalo Bayou, with the History Press of Charleston, South Carolina. His second book with the History Press, Civil War Blockade Running on the Texas Coast, was released in 2014.

Take this opportunity to work on a specific issue or skill in the following areas:   Using the Internet, Email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher .   You are welcome to bring your own equipment.  Assistance is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Attendees are welcome to come and go during the scheduled hour.

Wednesday, February 4 at 7pm: File Organization for Effective Genealogy Data Management.  Gale French will discuss best practice tools for managing genealogy records. Learn how to collect, create, store, organize, and protect your records (document, photo, digital and word processing) in an intuitive format and backup your data using disks, DVDs, and cloud storage.

Thursday, February 5 at 6:20pm: Friendswood Library flicks presents Stairway to Heaven starring David Niven and Kim Hunter.  Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger in 1946.  This film is not rated and runs 104 minutes.

Thursday, February 12 at 7pm: Author and NASA luminary Glynn Lunney will speak about his book Highways Into Space: A first-hand account of the beginnings of the human space program.  A book signing will conclude the event.

Interested in finding out how to track down your family stories? Come and listen to Irene B. Walters, a librarian from the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research in Houston, as she discusses the tools to use when beginning your research.

Thursday, February 26 at 7pm: Young Soldiers Amazing Warriors: inside one of the most highly decorated battalions of Vietnam presented by author Robert Sholly. Robert H. Sholly, Colonel USA Retired, is a multi-award winning author and businessman. Sholly served two tours in Vietnam, the first of which is captured in this book. He is currently the President of the 8th Infantry Regiment Association, an active member of the Pearland Texas Chamber of Commerce, and the Mid-Pearland Toastmasters Club.
