Tuesday, January 13 at 7pm: Friendswood Library Book Club will discuss Shelter by Frances Greenslade. Book Club meets the 2^nd Tuesday each month at 7:00 p.m.  Refreshments are provided.

Wednesday, January 14 at 7pm: Friendswood Public Library off the page poetry seriespresents a reading with David Cowen, president of Gulf Coast Poets; Sybil Estess, 2009 & 2015 Texas Poet Laureate nominee; and UHCL professor Dr. John Gorman. Featured readings will conclude with an open mic session. Dr. John Gorman will receive the first annual Friendswood Public Library Award for Outstanding Cultural Programming at the conclusion of this poetry event.

Thursday, January 22 at 6:10pm: Friendswood Library flicks presents Sense and Sensibility starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman, and Hugh Grant. Directed by Ang Lee in 1995.  This film is rated PG and runs 136 minutes.

Thursday, January 29 at 7pm: Captain Dave versus the Yankees: blockade-running on the Texas Coast during the Civil War presented by Andrew Hall.  Andrew Hall currently serves as Chairman of the Galveston Historical Foundation Museum Committee. Since 1990 Hall has volunteered with the office of the State Marine Archaeologist at the Texas Historical Commission to help document historic shipwrecks in Texas waters. In 2001 Hall was part of the inaugural group of volunteer marine archaeological stewards appointed by the Texas Historical Commission, the first group of its kind in the nation. In 2012 Hall published his first book, The Galveston-Houston Packet: Steamboats on Buffalo Bayou, with the History Press of Charleston, South Carolina. His second book with the History Press, Civil War Blockade Running on the Texas Coast, was released in 2014.

Thursday, February 12 at 7pm: Author and NASA luminary Glynn Lunney will speak about his book Highways Into Space: A first-hand account of the beginnings of the human space program.  Glynn Lunney was a Medal of Freedom award winner as part of the Mission Operations Team for Apollo XIII.  Lunney was a major factor in the success of all of the human space activities conducted in the first three decades and particularly in the exemplary work he did as Flight Director for Apollo XIII.    —Christopher Kraft, First Flight Director, JSC Center Director and author
