Walking Program for Pine Hollow
Several years ago I wanted to initiate a “walking for health” program in our subdivision but medical “stuff” changed my direction. After regaining my health, I wanted to share my ideas for a walking program. Starting the new year is a wonderful time to present healthy ideas to Pine Hollow residents and encourage positive health habits……….Developing a walking program in the neighborhood for Pine Hollow residents has a variety of benefits. When I worked on the Pine Hollow Neighborhood Watch years ago, the research showed how helpful it is for homeowners to be outside to see anything suspicious taking place in the neighborhood. Input from residents is really needed to develop a walking program for Pine Hollow and outline all the benefits.
Some ideas to consider are~
~ Health and safety of walkers (all ages!)……..Good modeling of adults for children to see is important.
*Individual medical conditions
*Weather conditions in the area
*Traffic
*Insects
~ Designated walking paths……..Either distance or time
~ Recommended times during the day to walk
~ Name for group………..Pine Hollow_______???
~ Shirts for walkers (maybe free shirts for the first 50 people to sign up)
~ Stretching exercises AFTER walk
~ Proper shoes/clothes
~ ?????
Pine Hollow already has many residents who are self-directed to walk/run/jog throughout the day…..There are some new studies for combining walking/aerobic walking/jogging to raise/lower the heart rate so walking time is reduced……….Consulting with a health program at U of H or San Jacinto or the Pearland Fitness Center could also be helpful in setting up/providing guidance/recommendations for a good walking program for Pine Hollow residents.
I have found that my energy level has been depleted from medical issues the past three years, and I’m not as active as I use to be to implement new programs………..However if a few Pine Hollow residents who share the same interest to develop a good walking program (pilot program) would like to help organize a plan, I would be happy to host meetings at my house (3712 Pine Tree Drive – The Partridge in Pearland House)……..An outstanding program could be developed and shared with other subdivisions in Pearland……….So many options and ideas are possible!!………..Please let me know if you are interested in planning a “walking program” for Pine Hollow residents.
