Residents invited to public forum for Parks Master Plan |
The City is conducting a Parks and Recreation Master Plan and wants to hear from all residents, business owners and special interest groups during a Public Forum on Thursday Oct. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Recreation Center & Natatorium (4141 Bailey Rd.). The Plan will look at existing recreational facilities, programs and services, conduct a comprehensive community input process and determine the current and future level of service for the community. Enjoy treasure hunting for unique art and handmade crafts in the shady setting of the pavilion at the Pearland Town Center on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Take in the sounds of local entertainment and performances, grab lunch at a nearby restaurant and shop for unique gift items. County Road 59 expansion complete

If you have driven down County Road 59 lately, you might have noticed that construction is complete and the lanes are open between Business Center Drive and Kirby. This County Road 59 Expansion project is part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program and a result of a partnership between the City of Pearland and Brazoria County. The project, which was managed by Brazoria County, aimed to widen County Road 59 between Business Center Drive and Kirby Drive. As part of the expansion, a cross section with a 4-lane concrete curb and gutter roadway with a traffic signal was constructed. The expanded road now provides better, safer access to Kirby Drive and Alvin Independent School District’s new Dr. `Red’ Duke Elementary School and improves the circulation around the Pearland Town Center. Local firefighters graduate from Pearland Fire Academy |
Twenty five City employees graduated from the Pearland Fire Academy, a ten-week course aimed at cross- training the City’s EMS personnel following a consolidation of the Fire and EMS Departments in late 2013.During the academy, the newly appointed firefighters learned skills related to structural firefighting and rescue practices in order to obtain the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certification. Each graduate participated in more than 400 hours of online and classroom training led by other firefighters within the department with special skills and training. Click here for the story. |
City’s Bond Ratings Confirmed |
The City of Pearland received positive financial news for residents and business members in conjunction with the City’s sale of Series 2014 Refunding and Permanent Improvement Bonds. The city’s bond rating was confirmed by both Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings at Aa2 and AA, respectively, with both rating agencies giving the city a stable outlook. This rating review reflects the City’s sound financial management practices and decisions and is an indication to the taxpayer of the City’s commitment in ensuring long-term financial health of the city. A bond rating, similar to a person’s credit score, represents the credit worthiness of the city’s bonds to potential investors based on economic base, financial indicators, outstanding debt and financial management policies and practices.
