Crime Alert – Burglar disguised as a security lighting contractor, surveyor
A residence was burglarized in the 500 block of W. Spreading Oaks on August 5 at around 5:30 p.m. A suspicious female came to the home and distracted the resident with a ruse while other suspect(s) gained entry into the home.
Here is how it worked. A woman knocked on the back door of the residence. When the homeowner answered, she claimed that she would be working in the backyard installing fiber optic lines for security lighting on another property. She had a two-way radio that she used to give codes to another person and asked the homeowner to accompany her in the backyard so that she could show him where she would be working. When she left, it was in a hurry and made the homeowner suspicious.
That homeowner contacted the police and reported the suspicious activity, but it was not until the next day that he realized that jewelry was missing from inside the home and the burglar left several things open or ajar.
Police had two similar incidents reported on August 6 where the homeowners reported suspicious activity that occurred on August 5. The first was in the 100 block of Dorado Drive (Sun Meadow subdivision). A female approached a resident and stated they were going to be installing lights on the golf course. The homeowner allowed the female suspect inside her home and the female asked a lot of questions about the house. At this time, the homeowner has not reported anything missing.
The other incident occurred in the 100 block of Briarcreek Drive. A female pulled all the way up to the homeowner’s garage, went to the back door and said that she was with a survey crew and asked the homeowner to accompany her to the back of the property. The homeowner refused despite the woman’s persistence. She eventually left. The next day the homeowner reported the suspicious activity to police.
The female suspect is described as an attractive Hispanic, mid-to-late 20s, 5’4” to 5’5” tall, slight build and was well dressed. At one of the homes she identified herself as “Tammy”. She was confident and authoritative in her speech and seemed very friendly in conversation.
She was driving a newer model, white four-door mid-sized sedan. When she left the home on Spreading Oaks, the trunk was left open making the license plate unable to be read. Currently, there is no description available on her accomplice(s).
If you suspect anything suspicious, please contact the police immediately.
