City Council approves library expansion project
The Pearland City Council voted to approve a library expansion project for the Westside Library that will add approximately 4,000 sq. ft. of additional space to the facility. The additional space will provide seating and small group conversation/meeting areas that are not currently available.
In addition to being able to better accommodate the high volume of materials being checked out, the expansion will increase the library’s ability to provide technology for residents and better accommodate the growing number of staff needed to support library services and activities. Read more.
Citizens Police Academy accepting applicants
The next class of the Pearland Citizens Police Academy (CPA) will begin on August 7. Classes are held on Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for 12 weeks at the Pearland Public Safety and Municipal Courts Building on Cullen Parkway.
CPA classes educate citizens on law enforcement and provide police officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.
Some class instruction topics include: Crime Prevention, Officer Survival, Patrol Procedures, SWAT, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Traffic Laws and more. In addition to the twelve weeks of classroom instruction, there are two field trips which include the ability to participate in a tour of the Brazoria County jail and act as an officer in mock building searches and traffic stops.
