Thursday, January 2nd at 6:20pm — Movie Night with Sullivan’s Travels starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake. Directed by Preston Sturges in 1941. This film is Not Rated and runs 90 minutes. Sullivan’s Travels was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1990.
Wednesday, January 8th at 7pm — FPL’s Off the Page Poetry Series featuring acclaimed poets Jonathan Moody & Winston Derden. Jonathan Moody received his MFA in Poetry from the University of Pittsburgh and his BS in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana. He’s also a Cave Canem alum whose poetry has appeared in African American Review, Crab Orchard Review, Gathering Ground, among numerous other publications. Moody is the author ofThe Doomy Poems (Six Gallery Press, 2012). He lives in Fresno, Texas, and teaches Dual Credit English at Pearland High School. Winston Derden is a former journalist, fiction writer, and poet who resides in Houston. His poetry appears in New Texas, the Texas Poetry Calendar, two Houston Poetry Festival anthologies, Words and Art, Harbinger Asylum and its first anthology,Pink-Eye Lemonade, among other publications. Some of that work is collected in the chapbook “Analects.” He is a lifetime member of Gulf Coast Poets.

Wednesday, January 15th at 7pm — Author Event with Jerry Craven: Two stories in Jerry’s book Saving a Songbird, ” Waiting for Grace” and “Picking Figs in Friendswood”, relay events from his youth in Friendswood during the fifties and include locations such as Pete Workman’s Café, the Brown family fig orchards, and Mary’s Creek among others.
Jerry Craven is Press Director for Lamar University Press, Ink Brush Press, and Editor-in-Chief of Amarillo Bay. He is a member of the writing faculty at Lamar University. His latest books includeThe Wild Part, Tiger, Tiger, Saving a Songbird, Searching for Rama’s Spear, The Big Thicket, and Becoming Others. Local author Harold Raley will provide the introduction.
Thursday, January 16th at 6:20pm — Movie Night with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross. Directed by George Roy Hill in 1969. This film is rated PG and runs 112 minutes. In 2003, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Wednesday, January 22nd at 7pm — Rudyard Kipling: a man in search of home —discussion led by past president of the Pearland Adult Reading Center, Tom Woods, and Philosophy and Ethics Professor Emeritus (Loyola University and San Jacinto College), Robert Craig.
Thursday, January 23rd at 6:30pm –Computer Class: Microsoft Excel – Learn the basics of this spreadsheet/accounting program.
