District Claims Largest Group of National Merit Semifinalists:
Pearland ISD proudly announces its largest group of National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists ever — 13 students. Dawson and Pearland high schools also claimed many honorees in other recognition programs. Read more….
AP Scholars Increase by 38 Percent:
Dawson and Pearland high schools boasted 335 Advanced Placement Scholars this fall. The awards are based on high achievement on rigorous AP exams. Read more….
District Expands Partnership with Memorial Hermann:
Pearland ISD recently signed an agreement with Memorial Hermann Health System naming it the official healthcare provider for district athletics. The partnership will enhance the district’s clinical rotations programs, healthcare career education and medical support to the district’s 3,500 athletes. Read more….
Livestock Show Rounds Up Scholarships, Showcase Opportunities for Students:
In addition to raising $12,750 for scholarships and $107,500 from auction sales, the second annualLivestock Show & Career Expo gave students a chance to exhibit livestock and showcase art and culinary skills on home turf. Read more….

Dawson Eagle Band Marches to Victory Tune:
The Dawson Eagle Band is gearing up for the 2013 competition season with a grand champion finish at the Friendswood Marching Band Contest on Sept. 28. Seventeen high school bands competed at the invitational, with Dawson High School making a clean sweep during the preliminary round. The final round featured 10 bands. As the only 4A finalist, the Eagle Band nabbed top scores in visual and music categories to win the grand champion title. DHS students also won an award for Outstanding Music Performance.” Our students held their own against competition that included several 5A state marching band participants. The Eagle Band is rehearsing with determination and focus to advance for the third time in its seven years of existence,” Ryan Agard, Eagle Band Director, said.
Only 1A, 2A and 4A bands compete in the University Interscholastic League state marching band contest this year. DHS and Pearland High School bands performSaturday, Oct. 5, at the Bands of America Houston Regional at Woodforest Bank Stadium (19115 David Memorial Drive, Shenandoah, TX 77385).
Students Tackle Leadership in Lone Star Program:
Twenty-three Pearland ISD students embraced their Texas heritage and leadership potential this spring and summer during Lone Star Leadership Academy programs. More than 1,000 Texas middle school and junior high students, including the Pearland ISD scholars, participated in Education in Action’s weeklong residential programs, which help young Texans become informed, active leaders in their communities. The future leaders toured major sites in Austin/San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston/Galveston while practicing problem-solving, decision-making and presentation skills. Read more…
