Fall Swim Lessons Available at RCN
If you didn’t get the chance to take part in swim lessons offered by Pearland Parks & Recreation during the summer, you still have an opportunity! Swim lessons are hosted year-round at the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium. Classes are offered for all age ranges, from 9 months to adult. Voice Your Opinion – Help Us Name Our Park!
The naming contest will run from July 1 to December 9. The final call for suggestions will occur at the Hometown Christmas Festival on December 9. After that time, all suggested names will be reviewed by City of Pearland and Pearland Parks & Recreation administration. The final name for the complex will be revealed in Spring of 2014. The person who submits the winning name will be invited as the Guest of Honor at the official ribbon-cutting for the complex in late 2014 and will receive a special commendation from the City of Pearland and the Office of the Mayor! The Recreation Center & Natatorium and the Westside Event Center have teamed up with the Associated Credit Union of Texas to offer free financial education courses. Courses will be held on Thursdays, beginning this month! Classes are intended for those ages 16 and older. Financial topics will include money management, credit, savings, investments, mortgage loans and home financing. Limited seats are available per course. Houston Rockets Mini Dribblers Basketball Camp
The Houston Rockets Mini Dribblers Basketball Camp is a 5-week-long instructional program produced by the National Basketball Academy for boys and girls in grades K-3. The program is designed to introduce and teach the FUN-damentals of basketball in a unique, exciting and educational way. As a bonus, the Rockets Mini Dribblers will get the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of fans before a Rockets basketball game! Train with expert coaches from the National Basketball Academy and experience all the fun and excitement of being associated with an NBA team! The cost of the camp is $105 per child. Programs take place on Saturday afternoons from September 21 to October 19 at the Recreation Center & Natatorium. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
One in 3 children in the U.S. is overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. But there are things that every family can do to make healthy living a habit for our kids as well as ourselves. Winter/Spring Recreational Youth Basketball Leagues
Pearland Parks & Recreation invites all youth basketball players to sign up for our Winter/Spring Recreational Youth Basketball Leagues. The league, for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, is designed to teach teamwork, to communicate the fundamentals of basketball, and to better prepare players for future basketball teams. All players will receive a basketball jersey and individual awards. The season consists of one practice per week with a 7-week game schedule and a single-elimination playoff for the top 4 teams in each division (with the exception of the 8 & Under division). Registration is now open and concludes November 8. The cost of the program is $90 for residents and $120 for non-residents. Games are played on Saturday mornings or afternoons.
