Pearland Parks & Recreation: Rec Report – August 2013
Greetings!
August in Texas brings two things: heat and chants of “back to school!” While we can’t do much about the temperature or the impending school bells, we can offer you multiple ways to ring in the new school year by being active, healthy and involved in our community! And if it’s too hot outside, you can always come indoors to the Recreation Center & Natatorium! We invite your feedback and welcome your input on our Facebook page, our Twitter feed or by calling the Parks & Recreation Office at 281.412.8900.

Pearland Archery Club is Aimed for Success
The Pearland Archery Program has experienced an incredible summer. On June 13, the program hosted its first annual JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Achievement Awards Banquet at Bass Pro Shops in Pearland. The program honored 21 young archers for their achievements in JOAD by presenting them with star pins earned through their archery development. Additional archery programs will be available in Fall 2013.
Banquet attendees also had the opportunity to hear from guest speaker John Magera a member of the 2004 US Olympic Team in archery. Mr. Magera spoke conversationally for more than an hour about his journey as an archer and even answered questions directly from the young archers in attendance.
The program also participated in in the BFAC 3D Club Shoot at the Buffalo Field Archery Club in west Houston. Archers navigated through the woods on a paved trail and took aim at 3D targets placed along the trail. The Pearland Archery Program is currently one of our hottest offerings! Voice Your Opinion — Help Us Name Our Park
Make your voice heard, and you might have the honor of naming the new City of Pearland Sports Complex! Phase One of this project, currently known as the “Max Road Sports Complex,” is slated for completion in late 2014. The City of Pearland invites you to submit your suggestion for naming this new complex, which will quickly become one of our City’s centerpieces for sports and recreation. You can be as creative as you like, however all suggestions should include “Sports Complex” as a part of the name. The naming contest will run from July 1 to December 9. The final call for suggestions will occur at the Hometown Christmas Festival on December 9. After that time, all suggested names will be reviewed by City of Pearland and Pearland Parks & Recreation administration. The final name for the complex will be revealed in Spring of 2014. The person who submits the winning name will be invited as the Guest of Honor at the official ribbon-cutting for the complex in late 2014 and will receive a special commendation from the City of Pearland and the Office of the Mayor!
