Celebration of Freedom Launches Skyward on July 4!
Join us in celebrating our nation’s independence! Pearland’s annual Celebration of Freedom will be held on Thursday, July 4 at Pearland High School Football Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m. Stadium and field seating will be available at no charge. The evening’s entertainment will begin with a VFW military salute, followed by a performance of our National Anthem. Then, sit back, relax and sing along to the sounds of the Texas Unlimited Band on the HEB Plus! Entertainment Stage. At sundown, enjoy a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display from your seat inside the stadium. Food is available for purchase, or patrons can choose to bring their own. Please note that alcohol, glass containers and tobacco are prohibited. Activities on-site will include face painting, inflatables and strolling entertainment. Many Will Try Our Mini-Triathlon! Will You Be Among Them? |
Triathlons just became a whole lot easier at the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium. Come and join in our fun-filled mini-triathlon designed for anyone with the desire to compete and the need to test their skills. The mini-tri features everything a full-length triathlon contains, but reduced in length to let anyone participate. Individuals will be required to complete a 300 meter swim, 5 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. The first 50 participants who register at least 7 days prior to the event will receive a free t-shirt and awards will be given to the top overall performers. The cost is $20 for Pearland residents and $30 for non-residents. The mini-triathlon will take place on Sunday, July 28, at 10 a.m. To register online, search Barcode 18980. |
X-Treme Heat Summer Girls Basketball Camp
The X-Treme Heat Girls Basketball Camp is dedicated to providing opportunities to help develop and enhance the skills of the average female player. Participation in the camp will improve the mental and physical skills of all participants. X-Treme Heat Sports seeks to assist young athletes who aspire to take their athletic abilities to the next level. The program cost is $100 per child, ages 5 to 18 years. RCN Third Annual Birthday Bash – “Let’s Get Physical!” |
The Recreation Center & Natatorium is turning three years old and to celebrate, we’re throwing an 80’s-themed party for all ages! Bring the whole family out on Saturday, August 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for our Birthday Bash! We’ll have moonwalks, free classes, a totally rad health fair, a pool party, the City of Pearland First Responder Round-up and a whole lot more!The RCN will be themed with Eighties décor from the era when Michael and Madonna ruled the airwaves…and Aqua Net ruled the “hair-waves!” We’ll have an 80’s digital photo booth, two working DeLorean vehicles (of “Back to the Future” fame), 80’s trivia & music, door prizes, refreshments and everything that made the Eighties great! “Let’s Get Physical” at the RCN!And don’t miss out on “Mascot Mania!” Team and company mascots from around the Pearland area will be visiting the RCN throughout the day, signing autographs, posing for pictures and competing in games of skill. We’ll even film a “Harlem Shake” video featuring the mascots and all of our guests in the RCN Gymnasium! Come early and stay late because this event marks one of the few days that the entire RCN is completely, 100%, FREE and open to the general public! |
Picnic on the Parkway is Coming Soon!
The Coppinger YMCA, Pearland Parks and Recreation, HEB, Pearland ISD and Space Center Systems have teamed up to provide Pearland the ultimate picnic experience. Introducing “Picnic on the Parkway!” For the very first time, this Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a portion of Pearland Parkway will be transformed into the best picnic spot in Pearland. Bring your family, friends, and pets and come ready to play, eat, and relax…all in the middle of the street! The activities will take place on Pearland Parkway, between Oiler Drive and No Name Road and continue throughout Independence Park. Scheduled activities include skateboarding, sidewalk chalk art, BMX demos, tug-of-war, roller skating, volleyball, croquet, a health fair, BBQ safety tips and much more! Picnic on the Parkway is a component of the City of Pearland’s participation in the “Healthy at HEB Community Challenge” – a city-wide challenge focused on healthy living that will take place in the months of September and October. Rockets Summer Basketball Camp |
The Houston Rockets and The National Basketball Academy have teamed up to offer a summer basketball camp designed for boys and girls who are looking to improve their basketball skills. Throughout the camp. participants will receive personal instruction in all areas of the game, including dribbling, shooting, passing, blocking and defense, while learning lessons such as good sportsmanship and the “team” concept. Players will be grouped by age and/or skill level when possible. Boys and girls ages 5 to 16 can sign up now for this five-day clinic, which will be held July 15 to 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium.
