Pine Hollow HOA Board Announces Election Without Asking for Candidates
The Pine Hollow HOA Board recently distributed an announcement regarding the timing of annual meeting. Included in the announcement was a proxy sheet for the annual election. All this is good.
The problem is that the Board never asked for candidates for the open Pine Hollow HOA Board position, in direct violation of our elections guidelines document. Only the Board’s choice of candidate for the open position was included on the ballot.
Current Board members, who insisted on having an elections guideline document to ensure fair elections, now choose not to follow it when it might interfere with their ability to control the composition of the Pine Hollow HOA Board. The guidelines document, which is well known by the current Board and is one of the few documents actually posted on the current management company’s website, prescribes that the Board will announce the elections and request candidate declaration prior to distributing voting proxies. Clearly, those guidelines were not followed for this election.
As homeowners, we should not allow our association to be run this way. All homeowners should have input, have the right to be heard and allowed to participate in the governance. At a minimum, the Board needs to follow state laws governing HOA’s and to adhere to its own governing documents and guidelines, even when doing so does not serve the private agendas of current Pine Hollow HOA Board members.
