But it never flooded here before
With Hurricane season coming up, homeowners should review their homeowner policies to see if they are covered for flooding.
Most homeowner policies do not cover flooding, typically a separate policy needs to be purchased. Flood policies typically have a waiting period before they go into effect, so buying a policy when there is a storm in the gulf may not help. There are different policies available, including the National Flood Insurance Policy, so contact your insurance agent to determine the best policy for you.
A recent TV show “But It Never Flooded Here Before” discusses the importance of flood insurance and the fact that many homes during Tropical Storm Allison were not in a charted flood plain. Flooding can happen in unexpected places. You can watch this program on u-tube. It is split into several different pieces. Overall it is a 30 minute program, worth watching.
