Join us in celebrating our country’s birthday

Join us to celebrate our country’s birthday at the Celebration of Freedom! Stadium and field seating is available at no charge beginning at 6 p.m. Sit back, relax and sing along to the sounds of our featured band, The Spinsations, on the H-E-B Entertainment Stage!Enjoy a fantastic fireworks show, “unleashed” by Westside Veterinary Hospital, at 9 p.m. Food will be available for purchase or you can bring your own. Additional activities in the Kids Zone, presented by Domino’s, will include inflatable slides, moonwalks & games. Click here for more information.

National Park & Recreation Month celebrations in July

July 2015 marks 30 years of Park & Recreation Month and the enduring importance of parks and recreation for the world. From the start, parks were created to serve the people – to give them a place to appreciate nature, exercise, socialize and have fun!

Volunteer with us this summer

City of Pearland Parks & Recreation has a variety of volunteer opportunities annually. One upcoming opportunity is the Celebration of Freedom. Volunteers are needed to help with decorating and event set-up on July 3 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and during the event July 4 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Contribute your time and become a part of one of the City’s most popular events. Shifts are awarded on a first come basis, so sign up today! Visit pearlandtx.gov/volunteer to complete the volunteer application process.

Learn about our outdoor recreation activities

Summer is the perfect time to hike a nature trail, learn about Pearland wetlands or explore birding. Nature enthusiasts can find information about outdoor recreation opportunities in the new activity guide. The guide describes activities, programs and much more. Our Jiu Jitsu course, the Gentle Art, incorporates the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of martial arts. In the course, youth (ages 6 to 12 years old) will build personal character, confidence and get a great cardio workout. Registration is $150 for residents or $190 for non-residents and classes are Tuesday & Thursday, June 8 through Aug. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center & Natatorium.

Foil fencing now offered at the Recreation Center

Get ready to try something new this summer. Beginning June 24, we’ll offer foil fencing for youth and adults, ages 12 and up. In the course, students will learn beginner fencing fundamentals, such as proper stance, attack and defend tactics. Classes are Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Equipment is provided. A $10 USA Fencing Membership is required. Register online or email a Fitness Specialist for more information.

Summer tennis lessons available

Tennis is a challenging and fun sport known to prepare children for life’s challenges! Participants in our Tennis Academy will learn fundamentals such as proper racquet grip, rules of the game and more. The course is for those ages 4 to 14 and the classes are held on Mon. & Thur. at Centennial Park, 3219 McLean. Visitpearlandparks.com for program details.
