It’s September and there’s no better time of the year to be active in Pearland! Cooler temperatures and turning leaves bring many to thoughts of football, sweater weather and late evening activities outdoors. The Parks and Recreation Department has numerous volunteer opportunities for those interested in serving the community.
Whether you are an individual or group looking for a one-time event or an ongoing project, we have an opportunity for you. Volunteer opportunities include: coaching youth sports, working special events and more. Families & Flashlights is an educational experience for all |
October is a fun-filled month including Families and Flashlights, an overnight camping experience held at Independence Park the weekend of Oct. 18 and 19. The event is aims to teach families camping basics, including putting up tents, cooking outdoors and fishing!
Bring the entire family for an educational camping session. Advance registration required. Participants will receive a list of supplies to bring. Click here for more information. |
Course to introduce your child to engineering concepts |
Introduce your child to physics, including the “Laws of Motion” made famous by Sir Isaac Newton in the Laws of Motion (ages 5 – 12) and Exploring Letters (ages 3 – 4) classes.
In the Exploring Letters class, children will create exciting models using DUPLO® Bricks, allowing them to build in a scale designed for their little hands while the Laws of Motion course introduces kids to physics. Participate in the Family Matters 5K/10K Fun Walk/Run |
Counseling Connections for Change, Inc., a non-profit counseling center in Brazoria County, has partnered with the City of Pearland to host the Family Matters 5K/10K Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 a.m. at the Pearland Town Center Pavilion located at 11200 Broadway in Pearland.

Sign your child up for the Houston Rockets Mini-Dribblers |
The Houston Rockets Mini Dribblers is a 5-week-long instructional program for kids in grades K-3 designed to introduce and teach the FUN-damentals of basketball in a unique, exciting, and educational way. Take the City of Pearland Mini Triathlon challenge |
On your mark, get set, go! Register and participate in our Mini Triathlon on Oct. 25. The day is designed for recreational athletes looking for a new challenge.

Karate classes coming to the Recreation Center & Natatorium |
A sport, a self defense technique, and a confidence builder are just part of what the Karate program offers. New classes are coming to the Recreation Center & Natatorium located at 4141 Bailey Road in Pearland. But, if you live on the west side of town, our class at the Westside Event Center is also still available. Classes are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays and registration is done on site only.
